Episode 12: Do What You Want Instead of What You’re Supposed To Do with Sam Cartagena

What do you really want?

Intuition coach Sam Cartagena joins Martha to discuss the potential that comes with finding out what you want and going all in on it.

On paper Sam did all of the right things. Yet, she was let go from her job all the same. Then, with life seemingly coming to an end as we all stayed at home for the first lock down, Sam knew it was time to ask herself what she actually WANTS to do rather than what she SHOULD do.

So she pivoted her coaching business from PR to include mindset (inner work). In just one year, she completely turned her life around. She clocked in 200 coaching hours...most of which were pro bono! Now, she is able to run her coaching business profitably.

Tune in to learn how to listen to your intuition while blocking the deafening noises of people, culture, and norms telling you what you should do.

Key Takeaways:

  • You don’t have to have your life all figured out. It is ok to be in experimentation mode. It’s the only way to find out what you want rather than what you should be doing.

  • Build the muscle of doing the thing you WANT to be doing, even if it means donating your time in the beginning to build that muscle. Don’t stay inside your head, put yourself out there. It is through taking action that you find clarity about what you want.

  • When you are envisioning the new life you want for yourself, be careful not to adopt society’s definition of success when you reflect. If you adopt society’s definition of success you will be limiting what your new life can look like. Create your own definition of success. Do things on your own terms. In the same way, create your own definition of failure.

  • Everyone connects with their intuition differently. When you pay attention to your inner dialogue, you will begin to realize how your intuition uniquely speaks to you. We are taught from a young age to neglect what our intuition tells us because it is not easily visible to others, this is why being able to reconnect with your intuition is something you will have to build towards.
